Course Application Process

The State of Tennessee has created an on-line application process for all handgun safety school applicants to complete before attending a handgun safety class in the State of Tennessee. In order to attend a handgun safety class with the Mt. Juliet Police Department, an on-line application must be completed. Please use the following steps to complete the process:

  1. Complete on-line application that can be found at: TN Dept of Safety Handgun Permits
(click on Handgun Permits tab). When completing the on-line application, you will need your Tennessee driver’s license number, Social Security Number and all addresses you have lived at for the last 5 years.
  2. After completion of the on-line application, you will receive a confirmation number. Make sure that you print off your application with the confirmation number or write the confirmation number down and keep it. The Mt. Juliet Police Department cannot retrieve your confirmation number for you and it is required in order to attend the handgun safety course.
  3. Send an email to hgsc@mtjuliet-tn.gov with your name, address, phone number, driver’s license number and the confirmation number from your on-line application.
Once your email has been received, you will be placed on a waiting list for the next available handgun safety course. A member of the department will contact you to confirm your class date as soon as one becomes available.
