Handgun Carry Permit Class
Thank your for your interest in the Mt. Juliet Police Department’s Handgun Safety Course. The Mt. Juliet Police Department offers the training required to obtain a handgun carry permit in the State of Tennessee. Our classes are normally held on the 2nd Saturday of each month at our firearms training facility. The cost of the class is determined by where an applicant lives.

The State of Tennessee has created an on-line application process for all handgun safety school applicants to complete before attending a handgun safety class in the State of Tennessee. In order to attend a handgun safety class with the Mt. Juliet Police Department, an on-line application must be completed. Please use the following steps to complete the process:
Currently our rates are as follows:
- Residents in the city limits of Mt. Juliet - $50.00
- Wilson County residents - $75.00
- Tennessee residents outside of Wilson County - $100.00
- K-12 Public & Private School Teachers in Wilson County - No Cost
- The class is not offered to persons not living in the State of Tennessee.
Course Application Process
:The State of Tennessee has created an on-line application process for all handgun safety school applicants to complete before attending a handgun safety class in the State of Tennessee. In order to attend a handgun safety class with the Mt. Juliet Police Department, an on-line application must be completed. Please use the following steps to complete the process:
- Complete on-line application that can be found at: TN Dept of Safety Handgun Permits
(click on Handgun Permits tab). When completing the on-line application, you will need your Tennessee driver’s license number, Social Security Number and all addresses you have lived at for the last 5 years. - After completion of the on-line application, you will receive a confirmation number. Make sure that you print off your application with the confirmation number or write the confirmation number down and keep it. The Mt. Juliet Police Department cannot retrieve your confirmation number for you and it is required in order to attend the handgun safety course.
- Send an email to hgsc@mtjuliet-tn.gov with your name, address, phone number, driver’s license number and the confirmation number from your on-line application.
