Interim Fire Chief Joseph Edwards
Joseph Edwards is the Interim Fire Chief for the Fire Department of Mt. Juliet. During his career, he has held positions at the City of Shelbyville, TN, Department of Defense, and the State of Tennessee serving most recently as the Campus Supervisor for the State Fire Academy.
He has held multiple ranks within the fire service and has an extensive background in management and leadership of fire service personnel. Chief Edwards holds numerous national certifications and degrees, including Fire Officer IV and Master of Public Administration. He is an active member on multiple committees nationally that deal with emergency services, training and curriculum on national standards. He is credentialed by the Center for Public Safety Excellence as a Chief Training Officer and is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association.
Chief Edwards is also a published author and speaker. His work has been featured in fire service magazines, textbooks, and presentations at national conferences. In his free time, he enjoys helping his wife at her woodworking business, landscaping, and being with family. He and his wife Brooke have 2 sons, Brady and Riley.
EMS Chief Eric Newman
Eric Newman is the EMS Chief for the Fire Department of Mt. Juliet. Chief Newman comes to the Mt. Juliet Fire Department from Vanderbilt LifeFlight working for the past 9 years there functioning as a Flight Paramedic, Manager, and Associate Director. Prior to this experience, he served as the Assistant Director and Director for EMS in Lauderdale County, Tennessee for 8 years. Eric has served in many other EMS capacities since 1998 as well, mainly in west Tennessee.
Eric holds a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from Liberty University, National Registry Paramedic, Critical Care – Paramedic, Flight Paramedic, IC.
Chief Newman manages all operations and functions of the emergency medical services for the Fire Department.
