Captain Jacob Dean serves as the Captain of the Patrol and Investigations Bureau for the Mt. Juliet Police Department, bringing over a decade of law enforcement experience to his leadership. Throughout his career, he has served in multiple areas within the department – including patrol and investigations. Through his leadership positions in Patrol, Training and Development, and the Special Response Team he has assisted in shaping a culture in alignment with the mission and vision of the department.
As the Captain of the Patrol and Investigations Bureau, he assists the Chief and leadership team in leading and navigating a cutting-edge law enforcement agency. Personnel leverage technological enhancements to provide an efficient and proactive approach to community policing. This technology includes body-worn cameras, license plate readers and real-time crime response systems, and up-to-date communication equipment. These resources are ever expanding with the pursuit of obtaining drones and virtual reality training to further enhance services.
Servant leadership is paramount to the culture of the department, and Captain Dean actively strives to use and display this leadership. This is vital to garner the support and trust of both internal and external stakeholders. That support and trust is a driving component of the growth and success of the agency and city, which is evident by the delivery of the new 45,000 square foot purpose driven headquarters.
Further, he remains active in the support and development of his community and his profession. He serves as a board member and mentor for the Mt. Juliet Police Cadets program, a member of the advisory board for the TacOps Conference representing the south region, and is an active member of The Journey Church. He previously served as a teacher for Music City Academy.
He was raised in Mt. Juliet and is a graduate of Wilson Central High School. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Cumberland University in Humanities and Social Science and a Master of Organizational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University. He has attended numerous training courses covering multiple topics, and holds various instructor certifications covering many law enforcement topics. He has received various awards throughout his career, including a Chief’s Award, a two Meritorious awards, and Patrol Officer of the Year.
Captain Dean remains focused on supporting the personnel and community, and continuing the discovery of ways to further advance the services provided to Mt. Juliet. This focus will help ensure Mt. Juliet continues to be a safe and thriving community in Tennessee and the nation.
